Fjorn Scandinavian was born when founders Sigurd Hadland and Ann Artz set out to create a new kind of Scandinavian Collection with products that would embrace their design philosophy and a company that would accommodate their commitment to family.

Envisioning a collection that was both elegant and soothing to the senses, Sigurd and Ann sought out the most beautiful Swedish table linens, the softest and warmest hand made woolens, lovable children's things, cozy, colorful blankets and sweaters in an array of great designs, and Royal Copenhagen and Iittala tableware that reflects the Scandinavian Good Life. With the outstanding success of their first product introduction, the Swedish Tea Towel, Fjorn Scandinavian soon became nationally recognized. Fjorn has been featured on numerous home and design web sites and in publications including Martha Stewart's Blueprint, Good Housekeeping's Quick and Simple, Romantic Homes, Country Living and the New York Times.

Creating a family-centered business was a priority for Sigurd and Ann even before they had children of their own. Sigurd was born and raised in a Norwegian-American community in Wisconsin and is the fourth of six children in a close-knit and entrepreneurial family. Diligence, hard work and the importance of heritage were core values he learned as a child and during studies at St. Olaf College. These values have been carried into his professional pursuits and to Fjorn Scandinavian. Ann is a fine artist and graphic designer and traces her heritage to 1848 and the original California pioneers. Ann has defined quality with her work at Landor Associates, a San Francisco strategic design firm, and with her creative direction on retail projects for Bachman's Florists, Marshall Field's and Target Stores. Ann's family has been in the jewelry business in Carmel California for years.

Shortly after their meeting during professional stints at New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Sigurd and Ann decided to pursue their independent business dreams. Together, they continue to grow and develop Fjorn in the San Francisco Bay Area. To their delight, Fjorn has become a family affair with daughters Grace Elliot and Julia Mei, their greatest creations and ongoing sources of inspiration.
