  • The Christmas plate from Bing & Grøndahl is the world's oldest collector series. This year's motif depicts a little boy who has been waiting expectantly all night for Santa. He has been looking forward to asking Santa if he would like to come down through the loft trapdoor instead of squeezing through the narrow chimney. Created by Danish artist Jorgen Nielsen, this year's motif is the 118th consecutive design in the series and used to decorate the plate, bell and drop.
Jørgen NielsenNielsen has been with Royal Copenhagen for many years where he was responsible for the continuation of Bing & Grondahl collector series, and has created a whole range of designs and new series of plates, drops, etc. Nielsen has designed motifs for all Bing & Grondahl Christmas plates from 1993-2013. This series started way back in 1895, and is the world's oldest Christmas plate series. As it can be seen from the pictures below, Nielsen managed to create idyllic winter land motifs with happy and excited children.
