The Clear Iittala Alvar Aalto Vase (4.75") is part of the Alvar Aalto Collection for Iittala and is one of the most iconic and enduring pieces of Finnish design. Sometimes called the Savoy Vase because it was designed by Alvar Aalto and his wife Aino Aalto for the Savoy restaurant in Helsinki, Finland, the vase was displayed at the 1937 World’s Fair in Paris. The Aalto vase was originally inspired by the hem of a woman’s dress of the Sami people, an indigenous people that live in northern Sweden, Finland and Norway. Available in six different sizes plus the bowl and mini-bowl (which makes a stylish business card holder), votives, trays, and serving platters, the Aalto vase comes in range of iconic colors.
Alvar Aalto simplified design elements to create a design that allows for various use. The Aalto Collection made waves in 1937 when first presented at the Paris world exhibition. The mysterious form made a strong statement against industrial production failing to meet human needs. Today it is an icon of a design movement.
