Kay Bojesen Grand Prix Sterling Silver Sugar Bowl, Creamer
Kay Bojesen's silverware was a lifelong project of vast dimensions. Kay Bojesen was trained as a silversmith by Georg Jensen in a Copenhagen backyard from 1907-1910 where he was taught how to master Art Nouveau to perfection. After his apprenticeship, Kay Bojesen became fond of functionalism and he saw the clean, smooth surfaces and the reflections of the silver as decoration in itself.
Kay Bojesen designed his cutlery in 1938 with the aim of crafting the perfect series of cutlery. Kay Bojesen was of the opinion that a series of cutlery shouldn't be affected by fashion and trends, but stand as timeless and aesthetic tools.
In 1951, Kay Bojesen's cutlery won the first prize at the World Exhibition in Milan and was thereafter named "Grand Prix". The Grand Prix cutlery has been honored as the National Cutlery of Denmark and is used in the Danish Embassy residences around the world.
