  • The Pikku Peruskassi bag is made of heavyweight cotton canvas in the Piccolo pattern, which is printed in Helsinki. The bag has handles, a shoulder strap and one inside zipper pocket. The bag has studs on the bottom and it is made of double-layered cotton canvas, which enables it to stay upright on its own.

In her first year at Marimekko in 1953, designer Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi created Piccolo, a striped fabric painted with freehand brushstrokes. Three years later, a Piccolo print shirt called Jokapoika became the first piece of Marimekko menswear to hit the stores and the streets.
Vuokko Eskolin-NurmesniemiVuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi (b. 1930) has had a lasting impact on Marimekko's clothing design, patterns and colors. With her architectonic, clean-cut clothes, she shook up the dress codes and conventions of the 1950s and helped liberate women.

In her fabric designs, she achieved a never-before-seen sophistication in color combinations by overlapping colors during the printing process. This color overlap in print patterns has become Marimekko's signature style, which is also used by contemporary Marimekko designers.

Vuokko worked at Marimekko from 1953 to 1960.

Marimekko is a world-famous Finnish lifestyle design company renowned for its original prints and colors. The company's product portfolio includes high-quality clothing, bags and accessories as well as home decor items ranging from textiles to tableware.

When Marimekko was founded in 1951, its unparalleled designs gave it a strong and unique identity. The classic Unikko pattern was created in 1964, after Marimekko founder Armi Ratia publicly proclaimed a ban on flowers in Marimekko prints. Artist Maija Isola defied the order and designed a whole collection of floral patterns that were so fresh and unique that Armi ended up taking eight of them. One of those she accepted was Unikko, the future icon of icons. Marimekko is always up to date with the relevant and modern home decor while operating by traditional Finnish values. Each and every article is designed to fulfill Marimekko’s core mission: quality, functionality and timelessness. Fresh forms, innovative designs, joyful colours and beautiful patterns – the FJØRN Marimekko selection offers Bags & Totes, Tableware and Textiles for the Kitchen, Blankets, Cushions and Vases for the Living Room and many other objects that make a house a home.
