The sculptural Cuba Chair, designed in 1997, references historical folding chairs based on royal thrones used to denote power and authority, and yet its low, open construction, decorative cross-frame and simplicity encourage an informal sitting position, capturing democratic modernist design ideals.
The versatile outdoor chair is made of teak and flat-weave rope, which makes it perfect for patios, terraces and gardens. The aesthetic and functional features of the outdoor variant are identical to the oak and cotton webbing original for indoor use—the difference is in the materials, which have been specially selected for open-air use as they are resistant to wind and weather. The frame is made of solid untreated FSC®-certified teak, which is highly durable due to its natural oils. Teak patinates beautifully over time, taking on a characteristic silver-gray hue which elegantly reaches out to the charcoal gray seat and back, made of water-resistant and light-resistant flat-weave rope, and the stainless steel brackets.
