Ekelund Weavers Product Care & Laundering

Treated with care, tablecloths, napkins and towels age beautifully. Spend a few minutes reading these simple instructions and you'll enjoy your Ekelund woven articles for many years to come.

  • Laundering: Ekelund products tolerate water temperature of up to 200°F (95°C). Use high water level for fewer wrinkles.
  • Laundry Detergent: We recommend laundry detergent without bleach or optical brighteners for all Ekelund products.
  • Important to Know: Unbleached natural yarns have their original natural color, which gradually bleaches with each laundering.
  • Hang to Dry: Appropriate for all items, reduces mechanical wear.
  • Spin Dry: Normal setting but remove items immediately.
  • Tumble dry: OK to tumble dry cotton towels with good results. Do not tumble dry linen fabrics as this results in a breakdown of the longer and stiffer linen fibers.
  • Ironing: Use maximum heat. Dampen first and iron parallel to the warp (length) of the fabric.
  • Mangling: Only recommended for pure linen. Fabric containing cotton turns out less wrinkled with ironing.
  • Other Tips: When laundering napkins, wash all napkins at the same time to retain uniform color.
  • Stain Removal: Try to remove stains immediately, or minimize damage by rinsing or sponging off the worst of the stain. Alleviate red wine stains by sponging with water. Then sprinkle salt on the stain and allow to rest for a while before washing the fabric. White tablecloths can be treated with stronger bleach. This should be done in the washing machine to avoid uneven results. Spot remover may be used, although there is a risk that colors around the stain may change. Make sure running water is available and rinse well as soon as the stain disappears.
  • Pure Linen: Detergents without bleach and optical brighteners retain the natural color of linen. For a smooth, lustrous finish, cold press the item after washing. Though not optimal, warm pressing won't harm the fabric (but never tumble-dry linen since it breaks the long linen fibers). Linen-cotton (45% linen, 55% cotton) is easy to look after—touch-up ironing will do.
  • Spotting Problems: If you get a stain on your woven tablecloth or napkins, be sure to act quickly. First, absorb the worst of it. Then place a napkin under the cloth to protect the table, dab water on the stain and absorb with tissues. Finally, wash the cloth without delay.
  • Rub and Wash: Soak stains in detergent or dish washing liquid. Rub and let things soak for a few minutes before you start the machine. If need be, wash again at a higher temperature. All our products (cushions excepted) can handle up to 90° C or 194° F.
  • Stubborn Stains: Laundry soaps with bleaching ingredients will remove coffee, tea and red wine stains—just be sure to use detergents with color-safe bleach. White cloths can be treated with strong bleach. To this end, a automatic washing machine is ideal with a gentle cycle with normal spin.
