Georg Jensen Jewelry Care Instructions

A Georg Jensen purchase is an investment in a piece you can keep forever. To ensure you get the wear and longevity out of your item as intended, we would like to share some important information about caring for your jewelry and timepieces.

Jewelry Care instructions

With appropriate care and handling, your jewelry will retain its beauty and last a lifetime. To ensure the longevity of your jewelry pieces, we recommend the following actions:

  • Take regular activities into account when choosing your jewelry. Avoid wearing them on the beach, at the swimming pool, or when playing sports to avert knocks and scratches. Wearing your jewelry should also be avoided when doing housework or gardening.
  • Ensure that you remove your jewelry before bed, when showering or when washing your hands.
  • Avoid letting your jewelry be exposed to cosmetics, hairspray, or perfume. Always put on your beautiful jewelry pieces as a final touch, after applying make-up and styling hair.
  • Take care to protect jewelry from impact against hard and abrasive surfaces. Even a diamond can chip if hit with enough force or at just the right angle.
  • Examine your jewelry pieces for loose settings, clasps and connectors before wear.
  • It is advised to have the setting of diamonds checked by a professional jeweler once a year—especially on rings.
  • Jewelry items can become scratched when they come into contact with one another. We recommend jewelry be stored individually in the Georg Jensen box that you were given at the time of purchase or another suitably lined box or pouch.

STERLING SILVER

Sterling silver will tarnish over time. This depends on several factors, including how it's worn, where it's stored, and different pH levels of the skin. The silver should be polished occasionally with a soft impregnated polishing cloth.
Do not use silver dip polish to clean your jewelry as it may give an immediate and shiny effect, but will also corrode the surface, making it tarnish faster and over time ruin the jewelry.
Silver jewelry that is regularly used typically needs less care, so we encourage you to wear and enjoy your silver jewelry every day.
An oxidized finish is used for some of our silver jewelry pieces. This finish is the deliberate blackening of crevices in the ornamentation to make the decorative details stand out more clearly. The finish can be removed by overzealous cleaning and polishing.

GOLD AND PLATINUM

Gold and platinum jewelry should be polished with a soft piece of wash leather or with a polishing cloth specific for handling gold.
All Georg Jensen white gold jewelry is rhodium plated to enhance the white color of the precious metal. Rhodium plating on white gold is the normal industry standard.
The rhodium coating will wear off at some point—how long it takes will vary from piece to piece and from person to person, depending on pH levels of the skin and daily habits.
The rhodium coating can be renewed.

DIAMONDS

Diamonds have a strong affinity for grease and oils, and the effect of dirt on a diamond's overall appearance can be lackluster.
Diamonds can be cleaned using a soft toothbrush and warm soapy water followed by a good rinse in hot water before being wiped with a soft cloth.
When brushing your diamond pieces, ensure the stones are not moving in the bezel.
We recommend planning a diamond check once a year.

GEMSTONES

The stones should be cleaned with lukewarm, pH neutral soapy water and gentle brushing, before being wiped with a soft cloth.
Some stones are exceptionally delicate and may not be suitable for cleaning with ultrasonic procedures or acid soaps. Professional cleaning is recommended for these stones.

PEARLS

Pearls are best cleaned with a soft damp cloth.
To preserve the pearls' radiance, avoid letting them come into contact with cosmetics, hairspray, or perfume.
Do not use ultrasonic cleaning.
Pearls are exceptionally cohesive and shock-resistant, but may be scratched by contact with sharp objects or other gemstones.
When you wear pearls, your skin acts like a polish, enhancing their luster. Regular wear not only enhances your appearance but also maintains the pearls' natural beauty.

ENAMEL

Enamel is a delicate material and should be handled with care.
Severe or direct blows may cause damage to the enamel.
Enamel can only be burnt once, and it is not possible to repair broken enamel.
Avoid the use of ultrasonic cleaners and sharp temperature changes, as they can cause cracking and chipping in the enamel.

HYCERAM

Hyceram is a unique material that combines the properties of high-quality ceramics with the advantages of modern polymers.
Hyceram allows highly opaque color designs to be created with wonderful clarity, a high surface quality, and a very high level of durability and color stability.
Hyceram has a high level of hardness and is a wear-resistant material. However, if mistreated, Hyceram can break, split, or peel away, especially if subjected to strong impacts or high temperatures.
Avoid rubbing the ring with other jewelry or abrasive surfaces.
