A timeless example of the Danish architect's functionalist approach to design, Arne Jacobsen's AJ52 Society Table was conceived in 1952, at the peak of his career. Jacobsen harnessed new techniques and materials to create the slender writing desk, which features a fine-structured leather top that wraps tightly around a tubular metal frame. A conical desk lamp in brushed stainless steel is a seamless extension of the design, as is the glass-fronted, wood-and-veneer letter compartment. Beneath the table, a six-drawer unit, also in wood and veneer, is suspended from fine metal tubes—a feature that, together with the slim frame and solid-wood feet, contributes to the desk's air of lightness. The AJ52 Society Table is available in two sizes, and with or without the tabletop compartment and desk lamp. The six-drawer unit can be mounted beneath the lefthand or righthand side of the table; choose from solid oak, walnut or black-painted oak drawers and matching feet.
Arne Jacobsen put his modernist stamp on architecture and design for more than 50 years—not only in Denmark but also internationally. His output was enormous, originating in a philosophy of creating total concepts, where everything was thoroughly designed, with a common thread running through all his work—buildings, furniture and other interior decor. Arne Jacobsen's productions are more relevant than ever—and have enjoyed a strong revival over the last 20 years. He embodies the balancing act of elite creator and household name.
Carl Hansen & Søn's products embody the narrative of the finest classical furniture art, created by some of Denmark's leading architects and designers—including Frits Henningsen, Kaare Klint, Mogens Koch, Poul Kjærholm and Ole Wanscher—as well as the Japanese architect Tadao Ando and the Austrian design trio EOOS.
With solid foundations in Danish traditions of joinery, blended with deep insight into the latest production technology, we make furniture of durable beauty and value, distinguished by full respect for sustainable materials.
